Summary
"Pay Jabez Hamlin Esq. on order sixty pounds money in bills to enable him to collec[c]t the sulphure [sic] & salt Petre that may be found in this colony & transmit the same to the powder mill in Dutches County N. York ... and charge the same to acc.t of the colony Connecticutt."|Docketed on verso: Order no. 2001 / Jabez Hamlin Esq.r / L60 / July 17th 1775 / Audited May 13 1776 / E P|Also on verso: Rec.d the contents of John Lawrence Esq.r / Jabez Hamlin|Both Jabez Hamlin Sr. (1709-1791) and his son Jabez Hamlin (1752-1776) served in the Connecticut militia from Middletown. Either could have been the recipient of the subject funds, but the father also served on the Committee of Safety, making him the more likely candidate. -- cf. Biographical sketches of the graduates of Yale College. The father graduated in 1728; the son, in 1769.
