A purser is the officer in charge of money and accounting for supplies on board a ship.
Describes in sections to "Necessary money", "Ship's books" (accounting & a list of those to be fed on board), "Dead mens cloaths" (the clothing of deceased sailors would be auctioned off to their fellow seamen, but it was against the rules to purchase clothing above one's rank and station), "Tobacco" (use of tobacco is permitted on the open deck it being "esteemed a great preservative against putrid disorders, and very beneficial in close and foggy weather," though the price of tobacco is exorbitant "since the late American war") & chpaters dedicated to the prevention of scurvy, "Essence of malt," "Essence of spruce," and "Sour krout" (as used by the German navy).
Bound in tree calf; rebacked gilt spine with red morocco label.
