Writing to his son, then a student at Harvard University, "Lighthorse Harry" Lee offers advice on what books he should read and reflects on the influences that have shaped his own character: " ... John Locke do not only read him but study him, do not only study him, but consult him as the Grecians did the Delphic oracle ...," of the classical authors, Lee urges his son to "pour over Tacitus, Xenophon, Julius Caesar & Polybius ..."
