"Your Excellency will receive with this copies of indictements [not present] which I have the honour of transmitting to you. The offenders therein named have been convicted."
"The punishment imposed by law is whipping & the pillory with payment of fourfold. To avoid this punishment they are willing to enlist for the war."
"If it should be thought expedient to pardon them on the condition of their inlisting the court will be much obliged ... that the pardons may be sent here by Tuesday next ... or at least that they may be favoured with a line informing them what is your excellency's determination upon the subject."
