"I have received the most urgent applications from Mr. [Charles?] Dick on the article of flour, which, he says, he cannot procure without your excellency's order for the flour collected at Fredricksburg [sic] under the revenue act ...."
Charles Dick owned a powder factory in Fredericksburg at the time of this letter; his son, Alexander Dick, was serving in the army first as a captain and later as a colonel.
"The order for 300 [pounds] on Mr. Davenport has been very unproductive and but little money paid into Mr. Dick's hands, and the whole factory is in a destitute situation."
