"I shall consider myself much oblig'd by your leting [sic] me have your fifer at five oclock this day, as mine is unwell. I have a man to bury at that time."
A John MIlls, probably the writer, was a lieutenant in the 1st Massachusetts Regiment at the time of the letter.
Jacob Leonard, the probably recipient, was a fife major in the @nd Massachusetts as of Jan. 1, 1777.
Both regiments disbanded at West Point, N.Y., in Nov., 1783
Both John Mills and Jacob Leonard were original members of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.
