Congressman Stuart writes to the last private owner of Mount Vernon concerning the claim by a Hamilton family descendant that Alexander Hamilton was the author of George Washington's farewell address. "I am unwilling that any injustice should be done [to] the great man's memory and will be obliged to you to look over his papers and give me any information you can that will enable me to appear on this subject, placing it right."
