"I have just now been able to look over the papers you sent me on approval, and I find that they are similar in character to several hundred of the documents etc. of Wm. Augustine Washington's estate which are a present in my possession and which it is my intention to go over carefully some time, retaining a small per centage ... which may have some value to future generations, but I shall destroy the bulk of this material."
"This lot I shall return to you on Monday, and if I can think of any of the descendants of Sarah Tayloe Washington who might be interested I will be very glad to give you their names."
