Clinton fears that his two previous letters have not reached the recipient. The first mentioned receipt of the request on M. [Berdot's?] behalf. The second reported Clinton's having given Berdot the rank and pay of captian in a provincial corps but regretted having denied permission to leave for Europe.
No captain in the 1782 British army list can be identified as the subject of this letter.
