Library has no. 99 (Sept. 20, 1783)(73.53.6): includes "Cantonment of the American army on Hudson's river" (p. [2]); no. 134 (May 22, 1784)(L2022LA2): coverage of the Society of the Cincinnati’s first general meeting in Philadelphia in May 1784, over which George Washington presided as president general. It lists the names of the attending delegates and features Washington's circular letter of May 15, 1784, introducing the Society's "amended" Institution [full text published] in response to the criticisms that were circulating about the Society: " ... in order that our conduct on this occasion may stand approved in the eyes of the world, that we may not incur the imputations of obstinacy ... we beg leave to communicate the reasons on which we have acted ... our designs, in some respects, have been misapprehended ... Let our actions be the best comment on our word; and let us leave a lesson to posterity that the glory of soldiers cannot be compleated without acting well the part of citizens" [The amended version of the Institution, which did away with the hereditary provision, was never ratified by the constituent branches and in early 1800, following Washington, the Society confirmed that it had always been operating under original Institution] (p. [2]); "Haym Salomon, authorised broker to the Office of Finance ..." (p. [1]); advertisement of "Four sheet maps of the United States of North-America ... by Mr. Abel Buell, 1784 (p. [3]); v. 7, no. 738 (Apr. 24, 1788)(73.57.6): includes "From the Boston gazette. Extract from Monsieur Mirabeau's Considerations on the noble order of Cincinnatus (p. [1])"; v. 7, no. 760 (May 20, 1788)(74.25.6): includes "Extract from Monsieur Mirabeau's Considerations on the noble order of Cincinnatus" (p. [3]); v. 7, no. 761)(75.60): includes "Extract from Monsieur Mirabeau's Considerations on the noble order of Cincinnatus" (p. [3]); v. 8, no. 933 (Dec. 8, 1788)(77.126): includes an obituary for Samuel Elbert, an original member of GA Society.
