"A separate issue of the atlas, originally designed to accompany Winterbotham's Historical, geographical, commercial, and philosophical view of the United States.
The second American atlas published in the United States; 5 of the maps (North America, South America, West Indies, U.S., Kentucky, and Washington) were direct copies of the maps in the London edition of Winterbotham, 1795, by J. Russell; the other 15 state maps were original, although some think they were derived from Carey's American Atlas of 1795. A limited number of copies included the plan of Washington, D.C.

Two settings of type of the title noted: the word "viz" is set in Roman type; in the other, it is set in italic, and the imprint year is omitted.
