All concerning service in Connecticut, four letters are addressed to the comptroller of the State of Connecticut, one to the secretary of State of Connecticut.
Contents: [1]. Thomas F. Hammond, Brownsville, Windsor Co. Vermont Sept. 25th, 1845 -- [2]. John Dean, Lunenberg Essex County Vt., Oct 2nd, 1845 -- [3]. Harvey Heath, Locke [N.Y.], July 19th, 1846 -- [4]. Arad Joy, Ovid, N.Y., Nov. 20th, 1846 -- [5]. Samuel A. Brown, Jamestown, Chautauqua Co. N.Y., Dec. 23d, 1850.
Letters [1], [3]-[5] are written by third parties on behalf of the veteran officers (most deceased) and their families; letter [2] written by a son about his father, John Dean, who had died in 1796: "I well remember his going into the service from Killingsly [Vt.] & being gone a considerable time, & have heard him tell of being at the taking of Cornwallis &c. and that he had quite a lot of Continental money, which proved to be worthless & a French fun furnished him by the government."
