Note
Having learned from a Capt. Hingston that letters and accounts had been lost at sea while in Captain Hastings' ship Francis & Rebecca [sic], Lloyd forwards another account corrected along with General James Robertsons second bill.
Henry Lloyd, a Boston Loyalist, was a member of the mercantile Lloyd family in Boston. See a description of another of his letters at the website of the National Postal Museum.
A report of the Pennsylvania Committee of Safety in Oct., 1775, mentions the transport Rebecca & Francis [sic] commanded by one George Hastings being stranded on the Jersey shore -- probably the same captain and vessel. According to the minutes of Oct. 26, the captain and several crew members were arrested and charged with acting "a part inimical to the liberties of America." Perhaps it was on tht occasion that the captain "threw my [Lloyd's] letter to Mr. Van Horne with all his other letters overboard...."
