Job Pray, A.L.S. Boston January 29, 1781: to Charles (?)

Pray was a captain in the Georgia navy during the American Revolution; but in this letter, he writes as a merchant seaman who came to Boston after a "tempest passage of 24 days." He mentions obtaining sugar, salt and coffee and it is possible he was running supplies for the war in the south. He mentions Capt. John Barry, and writes that the people back home "all but expect every day to be their last…."
Pray became an original member of the GA Society.
