General Gates writes to Ward, then president of the Massachusetts Executive Council, that he has received intelligence that the British might be returning to Rhode Island and urges "my old friend and brother soldier, to exert all your influence, to have the regiments I wrote for this morning, instantly compleated, and marched without delay to Tiverton [R.I.]."
