Orders payment to Mr. Abraham Clark "thirty four pounds six shillings and two pence, being the balance due to him for service in the Continental Army in the year 178[1?] and charge the state.
The last number in the year is obscured by an ink blot, but Clark served as a sergeant in Capt. Benton's Company of the 5th Connecticut Regiment from January to December, 1781 -- Record of Connecticut Men ... during the War of the Revolution, p. 347.
