Know all men by these presents, that we Samuel Comstoc [sic] of Norwalk and Sylvanus Brown of Stanford both in the state of Connecticut are holden and bound to the governor and company ... in the sum of two thousand pounds ....
"The condition of the abovf [sic] obligation is such that ... Samuel Comstoc is appionted captain of, and to raise a company in the Continental Battalion, to be commanded by John Chandler Esq.r Colonel, and will receive out of the Treasury of said state, for each non-commission officer and private ... the ten pounds encouragement for their inlisting ... in addition to Continental encouragement ...."
In 1777, the new 8th Regiment, "Connecticut Line" was formed for the new "Continental Line," under the command of Colonel John Chandler.
Samuel Comstock and Nehemiah Rice were original members of the Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati
