"Two important pieces of intelligence, the evacuation of Ticonderoga, and the captivation of General Prescott at Rhode Island .... If the scales were before equally [poised?], the loss of Ticonderoga will in my poor opinion incline the ballance. This fortress was the most considerable we had .... Our already distressed countryman lays exposed to the depredations of the merciless savages and the more merciless Britains."
"I am exceedingly fond of observes upon Gen.l How's [sic] progress into the Jerseys, that what appeared to us the greatest misfortunes were only blessings in disguise."
