"Rec'd of Major John Davenport for the use of this State five hundred ninety one pounds and eighteen shillings lawful money being the avails of confiscated estates ...."
"I find that twenty-seven in New Haven had their property confiscated and parceled out to informers throught the courts under the laws of Connecticut." -- Connecticut Magazine, 1901, vol. 7, p. 58.
On June 21, 1781, the governor and Council of Safety resolved that "Major John Davenport ... is hereby appionted and fully impowered to make sale of said lands [i.e., those "confiscated estates of inimical persons in the district of Stamford"] ... and to execute the said commission."
