Requests that his daughter Sally "be permitted to remain with us at least till the great day of rejoicing ... over the arrival of La Fayette among us... an event which has incited so much feeling - with the preparations for his reception so various & magnificent that our anticipations are all on tip toe."
Mentions that a possible visit depends upon his business, which involves sugar prices: ... "btwn 9 1/2 & 12 1/2, but still our market is not like yours, we are more limited. I have 200 Hhds [i.e., hogsheads?] on hand."
"The state of religion in our city is deplorably low."
Includes a postcript from Mrs. Markoe to "my dear brother] repeating the request that Sally be permitted to stay for Lafayette's visit.
