Holograph ms. written by Captain Pringle on alternate blue & white leaves, probably between 1770-1800.
Ms. journal reviewing and detailing the British officer's travels and military career over several decades (from 1741 to his death in 1800); the diary begins with Capt. Pringle's first visit from his family home at Caledon to Dublin, on 17 Jan 1741 & covers his service during the French and Indian War in North America beginning in 1757, including his experiences at Halifax, Louisbourg, and Fort Edward, and his involvement in the Battle of Quebec, the winter expedition to Ticonderoga, the Siege of Ile-Aux-Noix and the taking of Fort Chambly. He also participated in the invasion of Martinique and the siege of Havana. He later served during the siege of Minorca, when in 1782 he recorded "My hat shot away with grape shot & a contusion in the head," at the time of the capitulation of the fortress. He survived until 1800 when his death is recorded in the diary in another hand.
Bound in marbled wrappers with original pink tie.
