Scrapbook no. 2 in collection of material (5 scrapbooks & 2 envelopes of separate letters and photographs) documenting Isabel Anderson's experiences as a Red Cross volunteer in America & France during World War I & II, as librarian general of the D.A.R.; relating to the presidential campaigns of 1916 & 1920, etc.
Typed paper labels on spine: War service, 1916-1917; Red Cross 1939-1941.
Newspaper & magazine clippings, letters, medals, etc. relating to Isabel Anderson's Red Cross service, including several badges and ribbons pinned to the scrapbook pages (removed & stored in the Museum collection).
Partial contents: Photographic postcards and related clippings (pasted inside the front cover): The Espagne (postcard has Mrs. Anderson's cabin marked with an "x") and Isabel Anderson's award of Doctor of Laws at the George Washington University, the first woman to receive an honorary degree from this institution -- Letter to Larz Anderson from Harrison Hale Schaff, January 8, 1918, reporting on Mrs. Anderson's work and health while in France as a Red Cross volunteer -- Letter of William H. Slayton, Executive Secretary, Navy League of the United States, to Isabel Anderson, May 23, 1917, regarding clothing provided by Mrs. Anderson for the crew of the Perkins -- Clippings and photographs of women in their canteen costumes preparing meals and lemonade for soldiers in the Anderson House garden -- A pair of starched cuffs bearing signatures of Mrs. Anderson's guests at dinner at the Ritz in Paris -- Isabel Anderson's photo identification card in the Croix Rouge Américaine -- Several medals representing Mrs. Anderson's volunteer service (removed & stored in Museum collection) -- Articles relating to Mrs. Anderson's Red Cross benefit activities in 1939-1940.
Bound in dark gray linen.
These scrapbooks descended in the family of Augustus Anderson (known as Gus Anderson), Mrs. Anderson personal secretary in the last years of her life, whose parents had also been servants at the Andersons' home, Weld).
