Note
Bad pork, bad pickles, and dwindling liquor supply presented challenged in the field. Crosbie who is trying to keep the Jersey troops fed and "in good spirits," writes to Colonel Matthew Irwin, requesting that five hogsheads of liquor be sent "by the first shallop, as most of the troops are on fatique every day" & states he will send along the bad pork.
Colonel Irwin was a revolutionary offier, but also a man of wealth & helped for provisions for the army suffering at Valley Forge.
