Note
The daughter of Robert E. Lee writes to a Washington family descendant employed at the Library of Congress requesting help with her preparations for a talk on George Washington's set of the Society of the Cincinnati china, a large amount of which she had inherited.
The collection had been confiscated from Arlington House during the Civil War and had only been returned to the family in 1910 by order of President McKinley. The pieces she owns are now in storage in Richmond and she has been asked to give a talk about them to a ladies' group. She reviews what she knows from family tradition about the set and the history of the Society.
In a second letter she thanks Mr. Washington for the information he provided and mentions that she has also conferred with Armistead Peter at Tudor Place.
Transcription in case file.
