Note
Confirms receipt of his brother's letter of the 22nd concerning the courts martial of Henry Hair and Levi Stirling and have transmitted copies to ... Gen.l Washington.
"The necessary preparations for the party under command of Lieut. Col. Albert Pawling are in great forwardness ..."
"The accounts from the southward are farorable & tho' they are not officially received yet we have suffic.t reason to believe a number to be true.
"Count Pulaski surprised the advanced party of the enemy six miles from Charlestown, took 100 prisoners - on the 11th at 6 in the evening the Enemy made an attack on Charlestown. They were repressed with the loss of 653 left on the spot & 1500 who attempted to land from boats were also driven back, with what loss is unknown."
On p. [2] is an account from a man "well known to Gen.l Green[e] & who says he was in the action.... Col.o [Lush? Lusk?] has forwarded a copy ... to his brother at Albany with a request that he forward it to you.... Genl. Washington gives credit to the accounts of your success in that quarter & daily expects official acc.ts of them. [signed] G.C.
At bottom of address: The Qr. Mr. Genl. at Albany is requested to forward this letter without delay."
On verso: red wax seal and note: "... forwarded at 7 o'clock P.M. by ... H. Glen
Both George and James Clinton were original members of the New York Society of the Cincinnati.
