"Received, of Pay-Table-Committee, their order on the Treasurer, of this state, to secure the payment of forty five pounds & one penny it being the balances due to Cpyrian Watson on the first day of January 1780 as stated by the committees of the state and of the army in behalf of Cyprian Watson [signed] Jeduthan Abby"
The printed documents reads "... the balances due to me"' here, "me" is struck out and "Cyprian Watson" inserted in ink.
Watson, an African American, served in both the 1st Connecticut and the 5th Connecticut regiments during the war.
