1st item:"These certify that Sip Watson served with the 1st Connecticut reigment as a private soldier before the first day of January 1780 [signed] Isaac Sherman St. Col. Comdr"
2nd item: "Please to deliver the bearer your order on the treasurer for the ballance [sic] due to me for service as above [signed] Sip Watson his mark ; witness Isaac Sherman Lt. Col. Cm.dr
"Sip" Watson served in Capt. Bringham's Company of the 5th Connecticut Regiment from Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 1781 and in Capt. Petter's Company of the 2nd Connecticut in Feb. 1783. -- Record of Connecticut men ... during the war of the Revolution, pp. 349 and 368.
Cyprian, a.k.a. "Sip" Watson was a Black soldier in the Connecticut line
Sherman was an original member of the Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati
