Chiefly family news: "Your brother will have told you that we are in the new house which since he left us has become more than full - your father [Henry Knox] cannot divest himself of the idea that all comers are his guests .... we have now a number of New Yorkers but the weather precludes enjoyment."
The brother is Henry Jackson Knox (1780-1832); the sister, Caroline Knox Swan Holmes (1792-1851) the only other Knox children alive in 1805. After Caroline's husband James K. Swan died in 1836, she married John Holmes; she was Mrs. James Swan at the time of her mother's letter.
Page [3] blank; p. [4] is address leaf. Integral cover addressed to "Mrs. E[benezer] Thatcher, Warren, Maine." Later docket: "Mrs. Knox April [sic] 17th, 1805."
