Note
Given to the Mr. & Mrs. Anderson by Zenkichi Watanabe who served as steward in the American Embassy.
This Japanese Embassy scrapbook contains mostly photos of events that occurred while Watanabe was in service at the embassy. The scrapbook is organized in reverse chronological order with the more recent items in the front and the older items in the back. Some of the pictures are accompanied with newspaper clippings or notes explaining the photos.
Also included are notes typed by guests at the Embassy recommending the service of Watanabe as well as letters exchanged between Watanabe and former guests at the Embassy, including Larz Anderson.
The album spans 1885 to 1920, containing photos and newspapers clippings pertaining to several different American Ambassadors, including pictures of Andersons' arrival to Japan on December 28th, 1912.
