The block house was built in 1779, in the town of Mayfield near the Canadian border, to guard against the British. When its garrison being withdrawn, it was attacked by seven Indians in April, 1780, and successfully defended by Solomon Woodworth.
Printed later, with some changes, in the author's "Frontiersmen of New York," 1883.
Penciled notes: "Copied" for inclusion in the chapter "Principle events of 1780."
