From a document preserved by the Fitch family, John Fitch copies General Hugh Mercer's general orders of 25 Dec. 1776 for the Battle of Trenton sent to Col. [John] Durkee.
Mercer directs that Durkee have "three day['s] provisions ready cooked before 12 o'clock this forenoon ... are to parade precisely at four ... with their arms, accoutrements & ammunition in the best order with their provisions & blankets."
"They are to march eight men abreast with the officers ... from which they are on no account to separate ...."
Includes specific movement for each of the units commanded by Durkee, Col. Stone, Col Bradley, and Col Rawlings.
On p. [2]: "Prisoners taken at Trenton: 888 privates 1 Colo 2 Lt Colos, 2 majors, 8 Capts, total 917, 3 standards 12 drums
On two sheets of 19th-century ruled paper, glued together; page [3] is blank.
John Fitch was a member of the NJ Society; Rev. Willett, of the NY Society.
Colonels Stone, Bradley, and Rawlings were all original members of the Society of the Cincinnati
