"Pay John Lay 3rd [i.e., 4th], or order, the sum of ten pounds six shillings & nine pence lawf.ll money for his expence of sickness &c returning home from captivity, soldier in Col. [John?] Tylers Continental Regt - 1776 as pr. acc.t and charge the state."
John Lay the 4th served in the American Revolution; John Lay the 3rd died in 1721.
