A few items are separately cataloged: no. 1;
Numbers 5, 6, and 14 relate to moving soldiers to New York 1776.
Numbers 3-7, 9, 12, 13, and 40 relate to recruiting soldiers for the militia or for the Continental Army.
Numbers 3, 4, and 14 relate to the Canadian expedition
Several, among them numbers 8, 10-12, 18, 21-28 reflect death benefits (usually half pay of wages) due to relatives, or widows of Revolutionary war soldiers
Number 13a, May 9, 1778 is a receipt signed by John Harris, William Campernell, and John Smith for monies received from the Selectmen in return for their promises to serve for 9 months in the Continental Army; item 13b is a similar receipt dated June 9, 1778 and signed by George Pierce who agreed to serve for 8 months. Also, columns of figures apparently showing conversion from pounds to dollars.
Numbers 15 and 16 are receipts to the Selectmen for 75 pounds & seventeen shillings for the town's part of his wages for serving as soldiers at Providence, Rhode Island ... from 20 July 1778 to 1 January 1779.
Several receipts reflect supplies or monies received by the men's families. Number 17 is the most detailed, listing corn, rye, wood, salt, beef and lamb, tallow, molasses, sugar and wool provided to the family of continental soldier Thomas Appleton between Sept 1, 1777 and March 1, 1779. It is docketed: Suppiles to Ipswich soldiers. See also no. 19 for a less detailed receipt to the family of Thomas Appleton Junior.
Number 26 regarding Bine Elery's claim to part of her husband's wages could pertains to one Fertan [i.e., Fortune Ellery], a Negro hired to serve for Joshua Giddings -- see Massachusetts soldier and sailors of the Revolutionary War, vol. V, p. 378-79, where the note credits his service to Ipswich.
Number 31 is a 1780 receipt for arms, signed by 4 men who each received a firearm and a bayonet and promised to return them at the end of the campaign and to pay 5 pounds for their use. -- Number 37 is a similar receipt, also signed by 4 men in 1781 under the same conditions.
Number 33 is a pay order signed Daniel Day to Abraham Lord involves two bushels of Indian corn to be paid out of Day's wages
Number 35 is an account of 2000 pounds, 18 shillings paide by the town of Ipswich to Daniel Noyes chiefly to pay for named soldiers' service, but a few represent commodities such as wood or sugar.
Number 37 is a promissory note to T. Jabez [Treadwell?], 1782; statements of interest received are attached. On verso : Robert Wallis note L52.14.8. On. June 27, 1795, Jonathan Cogswell Jr. signs receipt from Stephen Choate, town treasurer of 50 pounds principle and L2.14.8 interest, the balance due.
Number 40 from the town of Ipswich to Thomas Ivers, Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is a 1782 account stated in pounds of delinquent or deficient funds owed by Thomas Dodge, William Dodge, Daniel Giddings, and Daniel Brown
Number 41 is an 1807 receipt signed David Dodge to Nathanile Wade, Hamilton, [Mass.?] for 67 3/4 gallons of linseed oil.
