Ms. copies of the broadside "The sentiments of an American woman," published in Philadelphia, 1780 & 3 other documents relating to the efforts of women in Philadelphia to supply clothing to the American troops; prefaced with an historical introduction, written by an anonymous descendant of one of the participants.
In 1780, Esther de Berdt Reed, wife of the governor of Pennsylvania, organized a women's committee to raise funds for the aid of the Continental troops. The effort was launched with a printed broadside titled "The sentiments of an American Woman."

Copy of a letter of the Ladies' Committee accompanying a supply of 2,000 shirts -- no. 4. Copy of Washington's letter of thanks to them.
