"I enclose you an affidavit [not present] taken before me as Recorder of this City .... My hand writing is very capable of being proved by David Humphrys & Jona. Trumbull Junr ... late lieut colos. in the Army of the United States and of the family of the commander in chief, & by other officers with whom I had the honor of serving till the close of the war."
Humphreys and Trumbull were both original members of the Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati; Varick, an original member of the New York Society.
