Part of the collection of letters written by French naval officers (and brothers) Gabriel and Victor de Chieuses de Combaud Roquebrune to their parents describing their experiences during the American Revolution, 1778-1783.
Raimondis-Canaux writes to M. de Chieuses Combaud, Gabriel & Victor's father, describing the battle of Rhode Island, criticizing the conduct of the American forces, & praising the conduct of Gabriel & Victor at the battle of Grenada in July 1779.

François Magdelon Melchior de Raimondi-Canaux: Born into a French naval family.His grandfather was Raimondis-Combaud, a galley captain. He became a guard in 1751, a lieutenant in 1764, and a captain in 1777. Was second in command of the 74 cannon ship Marseilles and took part in the Comte D’Estaign operation in Savannah and Rhode Island.
