On verso: "Proof of effectives" table with the statement "We do solemnly swear that the within muster roll is a true state of the company without any fraud to these United States or any individual according to our best knowledge ..." signed by William Maxwell, John Hollinshead & Derick Lane; "Muster roll of Captn. John Hollinshead's Compy. 2d. Jersey Regt. commanded by Israel Shreve May 31 1777. Coppy [sic] 4."
Names 63 enlisted men, but only fifteen are present for duty. This regiment had been engaged in Canada and had joined the main army only a short time before the date of this document. The "“Remarks" column notes reasons for absences: "Sick…taken prisoner…deserted… died….in hospittle …"
