Answers a forwarded George Washington letter (not present) concerning an unspecified request regarding admission to the Society of the Cincinnati, apparently in reaction to the opposition of Louis XVI.
Mentions le Comte de Lilancourt, the Marechal de Segur and suggests writing to Gen. Castries, all original members of the French Society of the Cincinnati.
Lilancourt-Taste was admitted to the French Society on the basis of his cooperation with the American and French armies in the reduction of the British army in Virginia.
Comte Jean-Baptiste-Donatien de Vimeur de Rochambeau was vice president of the French Society of the Cincinnati in 1784 and had earlier corresponded with Washington on the subject of membership. Some of that correspondence was read aloud at the 1784 Triennial meeting of the Society.
