"Francis P. Van Berckel is delivered to bail on the taking of his body to Alexander Macomb ... and John Doe ... yeoman at the suit of John Colvile in a plea of trespass ...

On verso: I do hereby certify that Francis P. Van Berckel ... is confined in the gaol of the said city & county under my custody.... 12 July 1799 [signed] Alex.r Lamb gaoler
Also on verso: Alexander McComb is exonerated from his bail on surrendering the body of Francis P. Van Berckel to the sheriff ... this tenth day of July 1799 [signed] Theo Beckman

Beckel was minister plenipotentiary to the United States from the Netherlands.
