All names on the list appear with a classical Latin pseudonym, from President Washington (Scaevola), Vice President Adams (Brutus), Secretaries Jefferson (Scipio), Knox (Sempronius), and Hamilton (Paulus); 8 senators, and 11 representatives, one of whom used "Quintius"; others used Livy, Cicero, Hampden, and Tacitus.
The senators are Robert Morris, Oliver Ellsworth, Rufus King, George Cabot, Aaron Burr, Richard H Lee, J Monroe, and Ralph Izard.
The representatives are James Madison, [Fisher?]- Ames, Abraham Baldwin, John Lawrence, J Mercer, [William Vans?] Murray, T Fitzsimmons, Egbert Benson, Jeremiah Wadsworth, Jonathan Trumbull, and Wm Giles.
In Sparks' Life of Gouverneur Morris the list is printed in Vol. 1, p. 373. It cites a letter from Hamilton to Morris explaining that the list serves "as a key to some of the published correspondence of [Morris] during his residence in France as Minister from the United States."
