"Apprehehended at Lamper-Eel River & convey'd to Exeter 8 miles @12/90th of a dollar per mile / premium for taking him up. 3 pounds 6 shillings, 5 pence."
Sergt Jones brought Phillip Cromitt [sic] and delivered him to my custody the first day of March 1779. Attest Simeon Ladd goal keeper."
"Rec'd on order on the treasury for the above [item?]" [signed] John Jones QMS
On verso John Jones Acct. [and] Philip [sic] Crommitt / ent.d to him
One Philip Crommett was born in Durham, N.H., in 1716. He may be a different individual from the one mentioned in the Committee of Safety records published in the New Hampshire Historical Society: "Ordered Simeon Ladd, Prison Keeper, to release from his confinement Philip Crommett, jr. a soldier belonging to Whitcomb's Rangers provided Capt Peter Drown, shall become Surety for his appearance again when calld for. Bond given ...
Watermark: triple circles, the top one encircling a cross; the other two, flowers. FIN on one side; 1771 on the other. Not in Gravell.
