In response to a letter from Robinson, Kilby provides a record of Revolutionary War service for Daniel Bosworth and Christopher Benner, both residents of Denneysville.
Bosworth enlisted "about the year 1779 for 9 months" ... "was taken by the Brithish ... & confined in New York Prison, & on account of severe treatment, was compelled to enlist with them & immediately deserted their camp; was again taken by them, and again forced to serve with the until retaken by the Americans at South Carolina...." "... [H]is second enlistment was for three years, at Petersham Massachusetts, in the 9th Mass Regiment ... and was discharged at West Point, several months after the close of the war."
Encloses a pass [probably MSS L1981.1.653.1]
Benner states that he first enlisted in the year 1775 for 8 months ... in the 2d Regiment under Col Bailey that his 2d enlistment was ... for one year in 1776 ...; 3d enlistments ... in 1778 in the 8th Regiment ... for 8 months; 4th enlistment ... for 3 years, he thinks in March 1780 ... was discharged several months after the close of the war at West Point.
"Mr. Bosworth has always considered himself as having a claim for services during the time he was held in durance by the enemy, & he says he was so considered by the American officers at the time."
On verso: The enclosed certificate may be delivered on payment of $5 - paid." Alos: Sent certificate to Kilby, May 5, 1836 - See his letter of May 2d.
