Note
"I have procured a man in my room for serving the war. His name is John Webber, born on Long Island in the state of New York, residence for this some time past the town of Boston - seventeen years of age ... trade mariner, and engages for the town of Weymouth, bounty ninety dollars."
Sergt Darling of the 6th Regiment is undertaken to see him safe to camp."
"I shall think myself blessed above the comman race of mankind when I receive my discharge...."
I desire that the said John Webber may not be returned for any monies before the first of January 1783, as I have not promised him any part of my back wages for 1783 and 1782."
"I ... return you my sincere thanks for your fatherly care of me while in the regiment, and the repeated kindnesses I have received."
Henry Jackson, an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati, was in command of the 4th Massachusetts Regiment as of Jan. 1, 1783.
On verso: P.S. I shall be much obliged to the Colo if he will be pleased to receive what wages or ;part of wages that may be red.c for me by the paymaster, for my service for 1781 & 1782 in your regiment....
