"It being represented to this Board that Capt. White of Col. Putnams Regiment hath apprehended & taken up William Fitzgerald as a deserter from his company who is now in custody of Sergent Thos Keen we beg leave to solicit on this mans behalf that he may be discharged from the land service on his procuring an able man to serve in his room as he appears to us an elderly man capable of doing more essential service to the United States in the sea service than the land are we inclined to ask the favor from Capt Rathburn of the sloop Providence giving him the charector[sic] of being an expert good seaman ...."
