"It gives me much pleasure & satisfaction that your request is granted and that you will have a Continental Regiment to carry on your operations which I hope will terminate with a reduction of our inveterate enemies at Penobscot."
"Great praise is due to Gen. Gates in offering the assistance requested ...."
Permit me to recommend Major Armnstrong aid [sic] de camp to General Gates who is going [to send?] a voluteer to Penobscot a gntleman who has signalized himself during the course of this war ...."
"I would also recommend Doct.r [William?] Brown Surgeon General to General Gates to your notice...."
Armstrong and Gates were original members of the Society of the Cincinnati.
