"Please to deliver to Lieut. John Sherman, Paymaster to the 4th Conn.t Regiment the state sundries found due to me for service in the 4th Connec.t Regt for the year 1780"
Sherman later served in the Continental Army and was an original member of the Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati.
"This certifies that William Goldsmith serv[e]d as a soldier in the 6th but now 4th Connt Regt before January 1780 and still continues in service & signed the above order."
On verso: William Goldsmith / Order &c for 1780 ; William Gold Smith / Order for his / notes. If Smith is the actual name, it is possible that he is the same William Smith who is listed in Metcalf as having served in the 6th Connecticut line and was an original member of the Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati.
