I have sent Sgt. WIlliams "with my grey mare to your care & direction. I am truly unhappy to be oblige[d] to part with her at this time, just the opening of a compaign, not a horse have I to ride, nor will money purchase one."
"If it is your power to purchase one worth a thousand dollars, I wish to have you purchase it & send it by Serg.t Williams. Gen. [Ezekiel] Cornell has a horse, for which I have offer.d him 1500 dolls & he wont look at it, he wont sell under 2,000...."
"A small fleet from Newport went out & stood eastward the 13th, we suppose for plunder."
