"I have ordered for the future that the enemies flag should be stoped [sic] at Warwick neck, and you are directed when the enemies flag comes, not to permit the person who comes to pass without being blindfolded, if in the day time, if in the night may be aided by some trusty officer without being blinded to deliver his message as he is directed."
A Lt. Col. Asa Waterman commanded the New York militia, 1775-1779.
