[No. 1]. At Hampton - Thanksgiving. appointed by ye Continental Congress thro'all ye United States on acct of ye success over Gen. Burgoiyne [sic] & his army - Oct 17, 1777. Decr. 16, 1777; At Salisbury for Mr. Webster annual thanksgiving. Novr. 26, 1778 -- [no. 2]. A.M. At Hampton - June 18, 1786 -- [no. 3]. A.M. At Hampton - Septr. 24, 1786. A.M. At N. Hampton ... Octr 8, 1786 -- [no. 4 & 5]. Subscription fund lists. "Collected by subscription for me ..." -- [no. 6]. "The 3d Chapter ye Hebrews", Decr. 22d, 1752 (in an unidentified hand).
[No. 1]: Rev. Thayer gave this sermon twice, first at Hampton was given in response to the call of the Continental Congress for a day of Thanksgiving to commemorate the successful outcome of the Battle of Saratoga; 2nd time at the one year anniversary of the battle at Salisbury: "Bounties of his common Providence but also to smile upon us in ye Prosecution of a just & necessary war – for ye Defense & Establishment of unalienable Rts & liberites – particularly in ye hath been pleased in so great a Measure to prosper ye Means used for ye support of our Troops- & to crown our Arms wth most signal Success ... Genl Washington is still on ye Field of Battle -- & has arduous things before him – we’r still engaged in War – the fate of these States still hangs quiverg on ye Point of ye Sword ..."
