Issued at Belle de la Mer, France, in the fifth year of the French Republic [12 vendémiaire An V] (Oct. 3, 1796).
Red wax seal of the 144eme Demi-Brigade d’Infanterie of France at left upper corner.
Captain Sacy was a "soldat dans le 78eme Regiment d’Infanterie" (beginning in 1774, and later rose through the ranks from corporal (1789) to capitaine (1793) & served in naval campaigns in America from March 1780 to April 1783 (78th Regiment was known as the Penthièvre Regiment during the Revolutionary War)
